It’s finally Spring!
It’s my favorite time of the year. I love the sunshine and warmer weather, getting outside to play and garden more. The kids will be home from school soon and swimming is just around the corner. I am so excited for this season change.
And with the seasonal change, you’ll need a change in your accessories!
I have been seeing bandanas a lot lately and decided I wanted to give the look a try. While I was surfing the internet for ones I liked, I came across a cloth one that had been made with a beautiful print fabric of wheat or barley type leaves on it. I fell in love…but also kind of wanted to see if I could make something similar!
A little trial and error and I soon had the Barley Bandana and now I’ve fallen in love with this one! I hope you fall in love with it too. I’ve written the pattern up for fingering weight yarn and three different sizes, toddler, child and adult so this will be a great warm weather accessory for everyone!
Materials:
- Approximately 115-220 yards/105-201 m of fingering weight yarn
- US G/4 mm Hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Size:
Measurements are of finished piece. Your wearer’s head should measure slightly larger than the bandana without straps width. This ensures bandana corners will meet closely when worn.
Toddler – 17” wide w/o straps, 10.5” tall.
Child – 19” wide w/o straps, 12” tall.
Adult – 20” wide w/o straps, 12” tall.

Gauge is important to your project so your finished piece will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The hook size for the pattern is based on what I used, but gauge can vary from person to person and be affected by yarn. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make 4”, try using a smaller size hook; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook. The pattern also provides measurements to obtain for a specific size. Using a combination of matching gauge and measuring, as closely as possible, should get you close to the desired size.
